ABOUT US
CAL’s Plan to Help the Homeless and Economically strained individuals to Get A Job And Get Back On Their Feet!
What It Is
Candy for Coding is a program by CAL to allow people to sell candy at profit to support themselves when they are in need of a flexible but more controllable source of Income. This means not depending on handouts to determine their next meal. While earning income they are also building their skills to get a career in computer science.
How It Works
- Chicago Advocate Legal, NFP (CAL) provides a free box of 30 candy bars to an individual who is under employed, unemployed, or anyone interested in learning to code (programming).
- Individuals can sell the candy for a minimum of $1.00, and they can make at least $30.00 per box.
- The individuals can then buy another box and work toward their first hour of a coding class. For $21.00 the individual gets another box of 30 candy bars and 1 box credit toward the coding class.
- For every 25 boxes an individuals buys from us they are guaranteed 1 hour of CAL's coding course.
- Once an individual makes it through the coding course they can advance to teaching coding courses for CAL. Additionally, they will receive assistance with finding jobs in programming.
- Those teaching coding courses with us are still eligible to buy boxes of candy if they wish.
- All money goes toward supplying boxes of candy, computers for learning to code, and paying a professional programmer to teach coding.
